Review
So what's with all the adding 'the' to the front of
peoples names? I mean I understand the episode title
theme but carrying it through the episode and even with
Seth stretching to 'the Kirsten,' it's just crazy. But
as for the death story line thing, I didn't see that
one coming. Not that I really had thought about the
situation though.
As the O.C. like to explore every possible avenue and
every possible relationship I think it's plausible that
Sandy's father will return in a later episode as well
as something involving his new found siblings. At the
party, Ryan and Eddie seemed to be repairing their relationship
- something I really wanted to see. Ryan seemed to burn
too many of the Chino bridges earlier in the series.
Well I spun that out well, so what did I think of the
episode? Well the death idea made be feel emotion which
I try hard to stay away from in real life, so strange.
But overall I think it was a good episode, very entertaining
and some interesting twists and plenty of special developments.
Jimmy and Hailey getting together wouldn't be my plan
though.

Teresa: "Yeah, like when you left Chino"
Sophie: "Want to know why I came? I came to say
goodbye"
Sophie: "And you married a woman whose father
represents everything I have thought against my entire
life"
Sophie: "The only nice thing about having cancer
is that I can smoke all I want"
Sophie: "We could all be dead tomorrow, you never
know"
Seth: "That's really comforting, thank you"
Teresa: "Besides, it's my engagement party. If
you'd have missed it I would have kicked your ass"
Episode Guide
Ryan and Luke arrive home after driving around all night
looking for Marissa. They find Seth asleep. Ryan checks
for the messages and finds one from Marissa although
she doesn't say where she is. Julie arrives and Luke
tells her about who knows. She asks to talk to Ryan
alone. She says she will call the police but Ryan tells
her no.
Julie leaves to go look for Marissa. Ryan makes a comment
about beating Julie to her. Roll opening title credits.
Seth and Ryan arrive inside to find Hailey has made
a huge breakfast for everyone. Kirsten comes in and
notices she is looking for a job. Seth suggests she
gets a job as a waitress at the Lighthouse.
Sandy comes in and begins raiding the kitchen to get
food out of the way explaining that it is the first
day of Passover and his mother's plane lands at noon.
Kirsten is reluctant to accept all these changes. Seth
goes to talk to Summer who says she got a phone call
from Marissa. Seth moans about his nana, ie, Sandy's
mother.
Kirsten talks to Sandy who says his mother (Sophie
Cohen) isn't going to be happy about him leaving the
public defenders office to make loads of money in private
law as she is really into charity and such.
Jimmy turns up to see Hailey and asks her how she is.
She starts to engage Jimmy in a more intimate conversation
but Kirsten's call interrupts. Jimmy leaves and Hailey
goes inside. Sandy comes in and asks who is coming to
the airport with him but nobody responds. However next
thing they hear a calling - she has arrived.
Sandy meets her in the doorway and the hug. She affectionately
greets each member and glances around the house and
comments on it. She surprises Sandy by saying California
is a pretty nice place. In the pool house Seth talks
to Ryan about how he is worried because nana is acting
nice.
Suddenly, Ryan announces she knows where Marissa is.
Cuts to him knocking at a door which is answered by
Teresa. Eddie turns up carrying something and asks what
Ryan is doing here. Teresa tells Ryan she and Eddie
are having an engagement party. Nana continues to be
really nice though Sandy is uneasy. She asks to see
his new restaurant and everything. Sandy is stunned.
Sandy wants to find out what is up with her but Kirsten
says he shouldn't mess as it's a change for the better.
The door goes and Sophie answers it - it is Summer.
Summer drags it all out and Sophie invites her tonight.
Summer demonstrates her knowledge of the festival taking
place tonight while Seth tries to hide.
Teresa and Ryan walk into the back garden and Teresa
says the wedding is in June. Teresa's mum comes out
and hugs Ryan but Teresa points out he didn't come for
the party. Marissa emerges and adds he came for her.
Marissa tells him that she isn't going anywhere. Hailey
turns up at Jimmy's apartment bringing goodies and they
kiss. However Jimmy stops them; she storms out.
Ryan continues to talk to Marissa who says she is going
to hide out in Chino for quite a while. Sandy comes
back from the restaurant with Sophie who says it was
nice but Sandy asks her what she really wants to say.
She eventually reverts and tells Sandy and Kirsten that
she only has four to six months to live.
Outside the house, Eddie confronts Ryan about showing
up. Eddie tells him to get out of here and goes inside.
Ryan begins to follow him but one of Eddie's friends
tells him to go and pushes him to the ground. Julie
calls Ryan back and says she will tell the police he
is holding her against her will if he doesn't get her
home.
Sandy wants to talk to Sophie about what's happened
but Sophie is reluctant and continues baking. Sandy
asks her about treatment but she says it is too late.
Sandy and Kirsten ask her to see a doctor but Sophie
says she doesn't want to go through that. Seth and Summer
come in as they argue but they soon leave. She storms
out.
Ryan goes in to see Marissa but she says that they
are not going anywhere and she goes off to talk to Eddie.
Ryan gets a call from Seth who says Sophie has become
scary again and Sandy and Kirsten are asking where he
is. Seth suggests that he comes home but Ryan says he
isn't leaving.
Luke turns up to see Julie and apologises but Julie
says it is her fault. Luke asks her about her plan to
have Marissa locked up but Julie says she doesn't know
what else to do. Sandy comes into the garden and is
displeased to find Sophie smoking. He pulls up a chair
and sits down. Sandy talks about a cure and Seth overhears
the conversation.
Sandy says that she was never home when he was young.
Sophie talks about how it was his father that ran away.
Sandy gets up and leaves. Sophie stands up and spots
Seth watching over the conversation. At the party Marissa
talks to Teresa about her history with Ryan who now
appears to be helping out at the party.
Eddie comes over and talks to Ryan about old times.
Eddie says he thought Ryan came for Teresa and freaked
out. They seemed to be repairing their relationship.
Ryan says he isn't sure Marissa wants him here either
but Eddie tells him she picked Chino as she knew it
was the only place he could find her.
Sophie goes to see Seth and tells him that he didn't
tell him because she wasn't sure that she could handle
it. Sophie begins to ask Seth about himself but he says
it just seems too trivial. Ryan goes to talk to Marissa
again and asks her to come back as it's just going to
get worse but Marissa says no. Inside she breaks down
in Ryan's arms.
Ryan is called outside and finds Luke there who tells
him Julie is serious about her threats but Ryan says
Marissa really doesn't want to see him right now. They
begin to get heated but Eddie breaks it up. Marissa
comes out and slaps Luke and tells him to go. He eventually
leaves. Summer comes into the kitchen and talks to Kirsten
but she is scared off when Sophie comes in.
They argue about her treatment of Sandy and Kirsten
tells Sophie to get the treatment and get to know Sandy
and Seth but she says no. Teresa and Ryan talk about
what happened and she says she should have invited you.
Ryan suggests she invites him to the wedding. Eddie
and Marissa turn up and Ryan says he has to take off
soon.
Eddie and Teresa leave and Ryan talks to Marissa and
reminds her of all the people who would miss her if
she doesn't come back. Back at home, Sophie tells Sandy
she has been finding homes for kids like Ryan for forty
years but never brought one home - a compliment and
everything.
Sophie says she is flying home early tomorrow to begin
treatment. Sandy suggests she has it out here however
she says no. Sandy says he will come and visit. Ryan
and Marissa turn up at Julie's house and Marissa says
she is here for her stuff. Julie says she is not leaving
but Marissa threatens to tell why she ran away and there
is a silence.
Jimmy turns up to see Hailey and apologises. They talk
about them having a relationship and discuss how they
tell Kirsten. Summer finishes reciting a passage and
Seth tells her that it was perfect however he also mentions
she could use the book. Ryan and Marissa turn up and
Sandy tells everyone that the food is ready.
