Review
4 seconds in and I think Julie and Caleb may have an
imminent marriage. 13 minutes in and my suspicions are
confirmed. Still that is the O.C., so utterly predictable
but that is why many of us love it.
It was pretty obviously that this episode was written
to have a dig at Seth’s sexuality and feminine
side but I think he has started to come into his own
again despite Summer coming a stronger character, Seth
has regained more of his ironic wit than simply being
a comedic character.
I have to say, I don’t like all this bridge burning
talk though. On thinking about it, Luke really shouldn’t
have slept with Julie as although there were some emo
moments, there was little proof he loved her with the
evil Julie storyline phasing out. Another point was
Ryan’s failure to have his back though as Luke
correctly pointed out.
As for the Lighthouse, I loved that storyline and now
it just seems to have been given an unceremonious death.
It’s basically being swept under the rug when
I really thought that could go somewhere. Oh well, not
one of my favourite episodes.

Seth walks off after signalling to Summer

Kirsten: “This marriage is an asteroid that has
hit the Earth, now we just have to see what species
survives”
Summer: “Don’t you know what a level is?”
Seth: “Yeah it’s something you advance to
in a video game”
Luke: “Welcome to Portland, bitch!”
Seth: “She’ll watch over you with the care
bear stare”
Ryan: “How do you know about the care bear stare?”
Episode Guide
Marissa is almost crying as the camera spins around
on her with the whole gang as the credits role on the
movie. Seth is also crying. The whole gang is Marissa,
Ryan, Seth and Summer by the way. Everyone seems overprotective
of Marissa and what she might do. They are also being
patronising.
Julie arrives to meet Luke although she isn’t
happy. The gang arrive at the mall to find Julie having
the meeting with Luke. Marissa walks off in one direction
and Julie walks off in the other. Roll opening credits.
Next day Seth enters the pool house and asks Ryan says
he is going to kick Luck’s ass when Luke walks
in. Luke says he is leaving town as his dad is leaving
town. He asks them to get Marissa so he can tell her
personally. Sandy is reading through the paper preparing
for the Lighthouse opening.
Jimmy comes in and he and Sandy do their secret handshake.
Hailey comes in to show off her dress. Sandy finds out
though that they have a problem with the liquor licence.
Sandy and Kirstin leave and Hailey and Jimmy share a
kiss. Summer arrives at Marissa’s and continues
to be patronising.
They go up to Marissa’s room where there are
boxes all over. Marissa heads out to meet Ryan while
Summer hangs around in Marissa’s room. She seems
like she is going to clean out Marissa’s room.
At the pier, Ryan and Marissa talk and Ryan suggests
Marissa talks to Luke. Marissa doesn’t want to
though. They share a kiss on the waterfront accompanied
by some music.
Seth arrives and is taken to Marissa’s room by
Summer. Summer says they should fix the room up to make
Marissa to make her feel better. Elsewhere, at the Lighthouse,
Peter Johnson from the liquor board arrives to see Sandy.
Sandy is told they lost the licence because the head
guy at the liquor board was forced out of retirement
when Jimmy stole everyone’s money.
At Marissa’s house, Marissa suggests they have
lunch but find themselves kissing. Someone turns up
at the door though and when Marissa answers it, it’s
Caleb. He asks for a private word with Marissa but she
tells Ryan to stay. Caleb tells them he is going to
ask Julie to marry him tonight at the restaurant. He
leaves.
Later Ryan turns up to see Luke and tells him what
happens, Luke heads off in his car. Back at Marissa’s,
Summer flicks though the yearbook then shares a moment
with Seth leading to their kiss. Kirsten turns up to
see Sandy. Kirsten suggests Caleb throws some weight
behind the problem.
At the restaurant, the place begins to start buzzing
as Luke watches on from his car. Seth and Summer does
some weird hand signals and sneaks out. Kirsten questions
Hailey on her love life but she says nothing is going
on despite going on to talk about Jimmy. Jimmy asks
Sandy about the liquor licence but Sandy brushes past
it. Outside, Luke continues to drink and finally gets
out of the car.
Caleb begins to give a speech and says Julie has done
a great job decorating while Luke turns up in the back.
Caleb gets down on one knee and asks Julie to marry
him and she says yes. Luke bursts out of the back and
Ryan goes after him and offers to drive him home but
Luke drives off furiously.
Marissa comes out and Ryan tells Marissa about Luke
leaving. Inside, everyone groups around Caleb and Julie
while Kirsten begins to drink. Back at Marissa’s,
Seth and Summer begin to put nails in the wall when
Seth misses it and puts a hole in the wall. Luke is
sitting on the front of his car while Ryan and Marissa
come after him.
Luke talks to Ryan on the phone but hangs up and takes
the anger out on his car. He phones Julie and leaves
a message then says he is coming to see her. He takes
off in his car. At home, Sandy talks to Caleb about
the licence problem. Luke and Marissa continue to drive
around when they see an ambulance.
They stop to find Luke being put onto a stretcher,
blood covering his face. Next morning they are still
in the hospital waiting room with Seth and Summer. Luke’s
dad comes in and updates them on his condition. Marissa
gets up to go but Ryan says he will stay and so Marissa
decides to stay too.
Jimmy talks to Sandy about Luke’s accident. Sandy
tells Jimmy what the problem with the liquor licence.
He also tells Jimmy he asked Caleb for help. At the
hospital Ryan and Marissa continue to wait when his
dad comes in and says Luke is awake, Marissa asks to
speak with him. At home, Julie talks to Kirsten about
the wedding.
Seth comes in and asks about Ryan, leading to Kristen
telling Julie about Luke. Caleb comes into the Lighthouse
and says he couldn’t get the licence but he seems
to be in high spirits none the less. At the hospital,
Marissa comes in to talk to Luke. He gives a speech
and Marissa forgives him.
She leaves and Ryan and Luke share a moment and Luke
says he may drop back in. They head towards the hospital’s
exit and Marissa says she has to stop her mother after
all the damage she has caused – next thing she
turns up to see Caleb. She prepares to talk about what
is going on but Caleb says he knows everything.
Caleb tells Marissa that he offered to buy the Lighthouse
from Sandy and Jimmy for several million dollars. He
says she needs to move in with them and become a family
or he may decide not to buy the restaurant. Ryan and
Marissa head back to her house when they hear Summer
and Seth upstairs.
Marissa comes in as they argue to find the room completely
done out and looking like Paris. They all collapse onto
Marissa’s bed and share a quality moment as the
camera zooms out and fades to black.
